SHOESDAY

Tuesday, 30 April 2013

A happy Shoesday to one and all. This week, it's the turn of the statement shoe. I'm talking about the marabou-adorned, bow-bedecked, poodle-faced lovelies that call to my fashion magpie within, or, as I like to imagine him, my small, very camp homunculus who probably wears a lot of Stephen Sprouse for Louis Vuitton circa 2001 - he's the reason my wardrobe is filled with impractical purchases galore.

SUMMER NIGHTS

Monday, 29 April 2013

Okay, okay, so the title of the this post is probably a little hopeful. It's definitely not summer here in London - you could hardly call it spring - but I've found the perfect outfit for at least one balmy summer evening event, and that's what matters.

This Needle & Thread dress (a new brand exclusive to ASOS) is the perfect length for events that require something a little more ~demure~ but crucially, there's a 'party in the back' as they say, with a plunging scoop. When it comes to gold accessories, my mantra is most definitely 'more is more', which is why I've piled on a Samantha Wills necklace, vintage belt (I have several incarnations of these '80s delights), gold Choos and a '90s Miu Miu bag I picked up on eBay recently. Summer season, I'm ready for ya! (Not sure I can say the same for my pasty legs...)

GEEK CHIC

I don't often post editorials but I couldn't NOT share this I.N.S.A.N.E. shoot from Madame Air France #153. The groovy fringe! The mini lengths! The crayola colours! The HEADBANDS! I would like to dress like this every day for the rest of my life, please.

A GIRL & HER GUITAR

I spotted Gabriela Pardo's amazing guitar cushions via Barneys by way of Pinterest. After a long search for the designer's website (it turns out Barneys spelt her name wrong on their site), I found lots more lovely colourways and fabrics, including this gold sequined guy. I (obviously) had to have him immediately. I think they're unofficially for children but I don't care.

He's a little spiky so definitely not one for lounging on in your most fragile silk or chiffon dress but he's displayed on my rarely used armchair for looking at (and occasional mime-strumming along to Gypsy Kings...).

FASHTAG: MY CLOSET CONFESSIONS

Thursday, 25 April 2013

I let Fashtag into my wardrobe to talk all things Chanel, sequinned and pink. This is what happened. Plus, now you have video proof of my existence (and my double chin, which conveniently made an exclusive appearance just for this video)! Yay!

A late pub lunch on Sunday was the perfect opportunity to don some of my favourite new accessories, including my deliciously sparkly Nanis ring (I say go big or go home), the aforementioned Bimba y Lola cuff and a floral baseball cap I snapped up in the H&M sale a few weeks ago.

SHOESDAY

Tuesday, 23 April 2013

My trainers-themed Shoesday post has been a long time coming. As you know, I'm a Marant sneaker devotee but lately, I've been hankering after a sportier pair. Umming and aahing between the Nike Air Max and Adidas Original Decades (of which Caroline de Maigret's a fan). And obviously if I had the $$$ I'd be all Balenciaga'd out. Nothing looks quite as cool as a pair of sporty kicks with some leather pants and a bomber jacket (or my Chanel track jacket, which I'm still in love with).

GETTING MOUTHY

This weekend was spent going to the gym for the first time in TEN YEARS (yup), hanging with my gorgeous friend Anneli and spending a lazy Sunday afternoon with the BF at the pub. Bliss. On Saturday, Anneli and I took a stroll down the Kings Road - after an obligatory coffee at Bluebird, she introduced me to Bimba y Lola and I promptly fell in love with this lips cuff. It hasn't left my wrist since (well except when I took these photos, obviously).

Yup, more pink. I can't help it. I saw this fuchsia beauty on good old Toppers the other day and HAD TO HAVE IT. Kind of wish I'd got the cream version before it sold out in my size because it's such a good fit. I have some matching pink shorts that I'm going to wear in the summer. This thought makes me exceedingly happy.

Eagle eyes may notice that this is only part one. Stay tuned for part two, it involves a pretzel and is obviously not to be missed.

BIRTHDAY DRESS

Meet Birthday Outfit number two. I changed into this M Missoni dress (lent to me by Wish Want Wear dress hire for the occasion) for tea and cake with family. I'm trying to grow my fringe out, which is proving painful - made only a teeny bit less so by my new headband habit. Well, it isn't strictly new - I've been hoarding headbands for a good few years - curiously, they always find themselves hidden away in my 'hair accessories' box. Well, not any more. This one is from Topshop years ago, but a recent headband spree has unearthed many wonders (thank you, Etsy), which I shall blog soon.

Apart from Etsy and the usual suspects (Eugenia Kim, Jennifer Ouellette, plus ASOS/Topshop/NET-A-PORTER), there seems to be few (affordable) headbands on the interweb - any recommendations?

THE BIG PINK

Monday was my birthday and naturally, I partook in many outfit changes. This was my first look of the day, incorporating lots of my presents. My wish (list) came true when my friend Octy got me the lovely little balloon dog necklace from Ted Baker - isn't he handsome? I have my parents to thank for the neon pink jacket from Topshop - it's even brighter in real life (cue lots of construction worker jokes from male visitors). I can never have too much pink in my wardrobe.

When I worked at Net-a-Porter I bought some faux leather pants from H&M which I wore CONSTANTLY. In fact, I'm pretty sure my fellow Net-a-Portettes bought up the entire stock. Even my friend who rarely ventures onto the high street made an exception for these leathery lovers. Sadly, one day they ripped (too many burgers probs) and that was that. I tried to replace them - I think I've bought four incarnations from various places since - but none compares. This story has a happy ending. I found an almost identical pair at H&M the other week. JOY!

Also featured is my new ring, a present from my boyfriend - thanks, Boyfriend - and that ASOS ID bracelet (another weekly wish list desire).

Today is a good day. Not only because it's MY BIRTHDAY (please send exotic shorthair kittens, pugs with human names and pink trousers) but because my friends Esme and Nicole have launched a kick-ass new site (and I don't say kick-ass lightly, actually...ever) called The Boss. It's for the working woman and they've asked YOURS TRULY to write a lil' somethin' somethin' for it! Read my interview outfit advice here.
