IN THE JEANS

I've been searching for the elusive Perfect Black Jeans for nearly 5 years. I thought I'd found them in the form of Topshop's now defunct Pippa jeans, but have decided that the pairs I stockpiled are a little too jegging-ish for me. No, I wanted a pair that were a true black, skinny alllll the way down and NOT remotely resembling jeggings. I wanted some that would suck in all the lumps and bumps and that I could wear rolled up with heeled pumps or with my Marant kicks during the day.

You guys, I found them. I have new online denim boutique Jeanography to thank. They kindly invited me to try out their Fit First Time service. You select three styles (or sizes of the same style) for free and then keep the pair that fits. They pick up the box with the remaining styles and voila, it's as easy as that. Pain free. Plus they have the nicest stylist called Liz who talks you through your choices (which is great for me as I have constant retail indecision).

Here are the styles I chose and my verdicts:

Hudson Jeans Nico Super Skinny in Black
When I think of Hudson, I think of Georgia Jagger - who despite being teeny tiny (and obvs tinier than me), has those all-important curves. I think this is why the Nicos fit so great. They were mid-rise banishing any sight of a muffin top, and a nice substantial fabric which felt like it sucked everything thing. But they are a lovely true black with no flashy labels and a plain black button. I was sold. This was the pair I ended up keeping.

James Jean Twiggy Legging in Slate
This style was my wild card, seeing as I initially said I didn't want anything jegging-like and was hoping to find my perfect pair of black jeans. These are grey and called 'leggings' but are definitely more jean-like. They appeal to my skinny, tall, Marant-loving girl within - within being the operative word. My friend Lexi (the aforementioned tall, skinny, Marant-loving type) had a pair of Helmut Lang jeans that were the PERFECT off-black/grey and these James jeans definitely came close. The only thing missing was the model frame to put them on. The low rise didn't do anything for my love handles so sadly these were a miss, but would be AMAZING if you were straight up and down. Oh, and I should say that I probably got a size too small. Ha.

True Religion Halle Super Skinny in Black
I felt like I had to try a pair of True Religions, since I've heard such great things from denim aficionado friends but have never tried them. They were as good as they say - but were just pipped to the post by the Hudson Nico because of the Nico's subtle hardware.

Thanks, Jeanography!

The little Hawaiian top I'm wearing in the photos was a vintage find from Paper Dress Vintage, one of my favourite affordable vintages boutiques in London (it's on Curtain Road, a hop, skip and a jump away from one of my clients - hello, lunchtime shopping). And the Isabel Marant flatforms are my holiday heels, if I can figure out how to walk gracefully in them.
