INSIDE MY MAKEUP BAG
Monday, 7 May 2012
I love beauty almost as much as I love fashion, so I thought I'd spend this Bank Holiday Monday laying out all my current beauty favourites/essentials. I'm WELL cool.
I have a HUGE vanity case and various Muji perspex boxes for everything, but when I'm on the go, I just pop the essentials + whichever lipstick has taken my fancy that day into this little Anya Hindmarch case from Gift Library.
Now for my current favourites, from L-R:
Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Nuit Illuminating Powder
This was a beauty cupboard treat from work. I love swishing it over my whole face for a bit of shimmer. And it smells divine too.
Topshop Blush in Flush
I love a bright pink blusher - have worn one for as long as I can remember - and I have tried lots, including Chanel powder blushes and Benetint. My favourite for a while was Stila Convertible Colour, but that was before I found Topshop's creme blushes, which are much cheaper and do the job just as well.
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in Rivage 50
I'm a big fan of statement colour when it comes to my lipsticks (see below), but I was lacking in an everyday shade, so I went to the Chanel counter and asked for a colour that was the same shade as my lips. The outcome: a lovely nudey pinky creamy lipstick that I never leave home without.
MAC Amplified Lipsticks in Pink Nouveau, Morange, Lady Danger and Ruby Woo
One of my favourite little extravagances are MAC lipsticks. No other brands come close with the colours. My latest shade - and current fave - is Lady Danger, the perfect orange-red.
Chanel Correcteur Perfection Concealer in 20
I'd been loyal to a concealer duo by Lancome until they discontinued it (a traumatic day). Turns out, it was the best thing that could have happened - this Chanel concealer is lighter but with a lot of coverage, which does wonders for my undereye circles.
Lancome L'Extreme Mascara in Black
The last time I had semi-permanent eyelash extensions, I asked the poor girl at my local Lancome counter to check through the ingredients on ALL OF THE MASCARAS to check if there was one that didn't contain oil (which can make the extensions fall out). This was the one she found. I'm not sure if it does have oil in it or not, but it's done the job. A little bit clumpy though so I'm waiting until it runs out so I can try out an Estee Lauder one, a birthday present from a friend.
MAC Brow Set
This clear brow gel has changed my life. I've always preferred big, natural brows but HATE it when one little hair falls down. UGH. This gel keeps them in place all day. Plus, you can use it to style spiky, Bambi-ish brows, if you so wish.
Rimmel Flash Eyeliner
Years ago, in some teen magazine, I read that this is Alexa Chung's favourite liquid eyeliner. Thanks Alexa, because it is now an essential in my beauty kit. I'm pretty terrible at using liquid eyeliner pots and brushes, so this felt tip-type pen is great for creating the perfect cat eye. I also use it to accentuate moles and beauty spots when I'm feeling fancy.
Hermes Vetvier Tonka Eau de Toilette
I am a huge fan of Hermes perfumes - Eau des Merveille, Elixir des Merveilles and Terre d'Hermes are some of my absolute favourites - and this my latest discovery. My friend Trisha got it for me as a birthday present and it smells SO GOOD. Just try it. Go on. Plus the handy little bottle fits easily into a handbag.
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H in 01
I discovered Lancome's foundation when I made the rookie error of coming into work makeupless, thinking I could do it once I got to the office, only to find I'D LEFT MY MAKEUP BAG AT HOME. I borrowed a colleague's foundation, and was instantly won over. Up until then I'd been using a Chanel foundation which was quite oily and heavy on my skin. The sad part of the story is that they changed the formula (they told me they'd only changed the packaging but I'm convinced it isn't as lightweight and silky anymore), but I'm putting off foundation shopping for as long as possible.
Chanel Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Translucent 1
I love Chanel packaging and love love love their translucent powder. One of my biggest fears is a sweaty face, so this is great for mattifying the complexion, especially in the summer. One of my absolute essentials.
Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Ebony 47
I rarely wear eyeshadows - if I do, it's a shade just a touch lighter than my skin colour to illuminate - but this smoky black is great for night.
That's just the essentials... I'll leave the extras, hair products and nail polishes (of which I have MANY) for another blog post or four...
