What a week. I've been running around like a headless chicken which is why I've been MIA on the blogging front. I have been having lots of retail therapy - so good for the soul, less good for the bank balance. I now own more velvet items of clothing than I could ever wish for. But let's face it, I'll probably be wishing for more soon...

Last night I donned a - you guessed it - VELVET dress (black) and my Zara thigh highs for a friend's birthday party. Such a good night. And today was spent drinking coffee, dancing and gossiping on the roof with HB. I wore my new velvet leggings from H&M, a Missoni-a-like dress (actually Ghost) I found in a charity shop, my trusty eBayed gilet, Primark studded black pumps and my new favourite bag in the whole world. Plus skinny vanilla latte. HB wore Tory Burch shoes (love), Lee Cooper dress, Zara gilet, Topshop leather jacket and Links bracelet (I just love the gilet worn over the jacket).

I had to post this picture of HB on my sofa - doesn't she look like a rockstar? Which reminds me, I bumped into Ronnie Wood outside Lucio on Fulham Road a couple of days ago...could hardly contain my excitement.

Slouching around in my charity shop-found, all-consuming, Vuittonalike scarf after dinner with my gorgeous friend Vicky - I love Orange Wednesdays!

The January detox is officially over and I'm once again eating my own weight in Hummingbird Bakery cupcakes on a weekly basis. Just the way I like it.

AN EARLY V DAY GIFT

Look what arrived on my desk from the Fortnum & Mason press office this morning!

FLORAL T-SHIRT

I picked up this floral t-shirt from Topshop in the summer and it's served me well. In the warmer months I wear it with bare legs, ankle boots and big glasses, and when it's chilly, all that's needed is a little skirt, some tights, boots and a gilet or cardigan thrown on over the top. I'm not the biggest fan of boy t-shirts worn over jeans (I felt like I did that in my first year of uni and it's too soon to do it again) but the fact this one is floral and slightly sheer makes it a different kettle of fish.

Obsessing over: Chanel temporary tattoos, tea cup Blue Persian cats, very thin gold necklaces with a single charm (worn separately), the charity shop a hop skip and jump away from my flat, grapefruit breakfasts, Prism glasses.

Oh, and I made this gorgeous open lasagne that The Passionate Cook posted a recipe for on Sunday and I wholly recommend it (recipe here). You might reel at the thought of haddock, eggs and lasagne together but it's the PERFECT TASTE COMBINATION. Super easy but generates a lot of washing up so rally friends. And don't leave out the egg, whatever you do. Oh, and I didn't have any lasagne so I just used penne. A bad picture (what can I say? Food photography definitely isn't my strong point)...

ICE ICE BABY

So after slipping and sliding my way in my non-grip over-the-knees to work this working in the hideous weather (snow + suede = tragedy), I marched to my computer (or rather hobbled, my toes were completely numb) and ordered a pair of black Hunter wellies with Net-a-Porter's lifesaving same day delivery before you could say 'Frosty the Snowman'. I've been needing a pair for a while, I would have had to get a taxi home, plus a whole load of other worthless justifications later and the wellies are mine (this little post is something of a confession, I suppose). Looking forward to jogging home, like some of the other cocky commuters I shuffled past this morning.

LAZY OUTFIT + MINK NAILS

Goofing around in my flat after a hard day's work. This is one of those easy outfits that I throw on whenever I'm feeling lazy. The blazer is from Zara but is oft mistaken for Stella, which is fun. The sweater is H&M, the jeans are Topshop and the In that last picture I'm not pawing the screen but showing you my favourite new nail polish, On the Rocks by Leighton Denny. It's a dead ringer for Chanel's Particuliere, which I can't wait to get my mitts on when it launches, but until then, this will sate my need for mink-coloured talons.

A MATCHES GIRL & ME

Monday, 11 January 2010
Photobucket

My beautiful friend Chloé is Fashion Editor for Matches (check out the blog) and the perfect Matches girl - a little rock n' roll, a sprinkling of Parisian cool, and always, always chic. Here she is in the perfect all-black outfit: Jamie jeans from Topshop (these looked so good on her I HAVE to get a pair), Day Birger et Mikkelsen sweater, Vanilla rabbit gilet, and topped off with an LK Bennett scarf from a Chelsea Arts Fair.

And what I wore for breakfasting at Daylesford Organic and skulking down the King's Road with my friend Trisha. I almost didn't post this because it's fairly pared down (and yes, THOSE Topshop leather trousers, AGAIN!) and because I look tired and windswept, which I was. The fruits of my shopping trip? Just a pair of gorgeous brown leather culottes from Zara (so Chloé SS09, right?!). I spent far too long trying to find a pair of tights to match exactly, with no luck even at Tabio (and the girl in Wolford trying to persuade me that shimmery teal tights would look good with the shorts...er...). And I contemplated buying a pair of the Russell & Bromley patent tasselled loafers before deciding that would have to wait until payday (and my podatric appointment - yes folks, I might be getting bunions at the age of 22! TMI, I know.)

I wore the Topshop leather trousers, Pierre Hardy for Gap biker boots with some Gap woollen knee highs poking out and a Primark jumper - LOVE the boatneck.

Standard blogging poses. This is what I wore to run errands on the slippery ice. That day I learnt that Pierre Hardy for Gap shoes are not compatible with icy terrain the hard way. One of my colleagues has just bought some suede, shearling-lined Dr. Martens - a far more stylish way of conquering the ice than hiking boots (although I did envy those hikers when I was sat flat on my bum a few metres outside work...).

Worn with my Topshop dress, leather trousers, eBayed gilet and orange Hermes twilly, and dreaming of gold leather trousers...yay or nay?

PAINTING THE TOWN (RUBY WOO) RED

Photobucket

Photobucket

My gorgeous friend and super duper model Georgia HB and I painted the town (and our lips) Ruby Woo red on Wednesday together with Satin the Great and a handful of ethereal male models. Black Cod and Shrimp Hash at Automat followed by drinking and dancing at Jalouse. I wore a vintage Laura Ashley velvet blouse, vintage leather skirt, Zara thigh high boots and an Anya Hindmarch bag, and Georgia wore a Fenn Wright Manson top, some AMAZING leather trousers a stylist gave her on a shoot, a homemade headband, bag from a Parisian flea market and some heels borrowed from her sister. Below you can see G's outfit better.

Photobucket

And I HAD to include a picture of my newly acquired (and insanely bargainous) red Aquascutum coat, even though I look rather like a bag lady who's been handed a glass of wine by a sympathetic passerby. You can't see much detail but it has a beautiful black velvet collar and I've been dying to wear it since I got it last weekend, but it had to go to the dry cleaners first. Will do a proper post on it soon. Excuse all the unsightly wires - I was trying to hook up a TV in my bedroom and forgot to tidy the wires away.

SPARKLY LEGS & THE REST

This is the outfit the sparkly leg in this morning's post belonged to. I am wearing a very cosy H&M cardigan, t-shirt and skirt, with the sparkly tights from when I was 15 or something and you can just about see my Tom Binns-alike necklace from Primark.Today was frrrrrreezing in London so to venture outside I put my beloved green vintage coat over the top, which makes me feel a little like Allie McGraw in Love Story. The one thing I hate about it is its silly pockets which are too small to fit anything in, and were the reason why this morning I lost my Oyster card and had to retrace my steps back to my flat door where I'd dropped it. I found it but by that point it was too late and I had to call a taxi and my taxi driver was a Hell's Angels and told me alll about his Hell's Angels road trips when all I wanted to do was put my make-up on and jab away at my Blackberry.

The photos were taken by Octavia Squire, who is going to be a very famous artist one day. She's an amazing painter. I'm trying to persuade her to get her own blog. Thanks for photographing me, Octy!

SPARKLY

Picture this - it's the coldest day of the year, my alarm goes off at 6.30, and the last thing I want to do is leave my toasty bed to venture out into the freezing cold to begin my commute to work. The answer? Inspired by Dylana from Nana in Wonderland, I donned a pair of sparkly tights. It was enough to make me leap out of bed...almost. I wore them with a black skater skirt, boucle cardigan and Pierre Hardy for Gap biker boots (in preparation for the snow...) but my boyfriend was already at work - he wakes up at an ungodly hour - and wasn't there to photograph me. I'll get a picture tonight, but for now, you're left with my sparkly legs...

Happy 2010! I celebrated the turn of the decade in my blue velvet Topshop dress. It's become my go-to party dress. In fact, I considered buying a few of the same in the sale just in case the velvet on this one ever turns old and see-through, but stopped myself. Worn with Tabio dotty tights, Ferragamo Vara pumps and big old gold earrings (you can't really see them past my all-consuming mane).

New Year's Resolutions anyone? Mine are the same every year - DON'T BE LATE and BE MORE ORGANISED. This year, I'm determined to stick to them, which is why I bought a shiny new diary by Ordning&Reda (I got mine from Selfridges). I was inspired by a friend who had stuck lots of photos and memories in hers. The diary has a big spine and a page for each day - perfect for my scrawl and doodles.
