I LOVE THE LIKE

I went to see one of my favourite bands, The Like, on Wednesday at the Old Blue Last. I've loved them for as long as they've been around for both their music and sartorial choices - I don't care if that's shallow - and so was jumping for joy when after a loooong hiatus they came back, albeit as a reformed band (now a four-piece) with a completely different sound. Wednesday night simply refuelled the fire - I love them as much as I did back when I was making mix tapes full of Tullycraft and Belle & Seb, wearing knee socks, and dating boys who wore skinnier jeans that I did.

I loved Z's tiny dress - she is even tinier in real life, like a doll. I feel an illustration coming on...

Little gold shoes!

I can't wait for their new album to come out. In the mean time, I've been dancing around to Fair Game and Wishing He Was Dead - you can download the former for free here, if you so desire.

P.s. As you may or may not know, I'm currently trying to form a girl band (akin to The Like, Au Revoir Simone, Plastiscines, with a little bit of Le Tigre thrown in - you get the drift). I've been in several bands previously and have the bug again! Currently we're just a twosome but looking for a bassist, drummer and possible other guitarist (we're both teaching ourselves guitar - I used to play but need to relearn). Plus any more unusual instruments (mandolin, ukelele, etc.) also welcome. If you're interested, please email me at natalie@cannedfashion.com

  1. Ah, I used to ADORE The Like. That first album was so, so good. I must admit, I'm not sure about the new sound though. Maybe it will grow on me. I would have loved to play in a band like the one you're hoping to do, as I do play bass among other things, but sadly, I'm just too far away.

  2. They are so cute! Haha I can't play an instrument but if you need a singer, lemme know!

  3. Z looks so much like Edie Sedgwick here, it's incredible! Gorgeous! The kitten heels even out the shortness of the dress, I'm definitely in awe of her style!

I play the guitar pretty badly, I really wouldn't want to unleash that onto the world, so I'd like to apply for Groupie of your future band instead, if the position is still available...

    Good luck!

  6. PS. I played bass for about 3 months before I had to give the guitar back. I miss it.
